    SPRING DEFENSIVE PROGRAM 2010 ___________________________________________________________________

The Magdaleno School of Baseball will hold its first ever Spring Defensive Lesson Program beginning ON SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15TH!

The Defensive Lesson Program will be headed by Director of Operations Steven Hardesty (please visit www.magdalenobaseball.com to see Coach Hardesty's Resume. Click on the coaches tab).

The lessons will be held on Sundays at Ventura College beginning on Sunday, February 15th and run until the end of April, 2010.

There will be two lesson groups. The first group will begin at 11 a.m and conclude at 12:30 p.m. The second group will begin at 1 p.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. There will be one lesson per week and four lessons in a 30-day period. The cost of the program is $80 per month.

Each defensive group will have no more than 15 players and Coach Hardesty will be assisted by Coach Terry Bauer. All groups will have playerrs of comparable baseball skills and each group will specialize in either infield technique or outfield technique.

The infield and outfield skills that will be covered:

Infield

    Footwork- Proper fielding footwork, proper footwork for receiving a throw at 1st, 2nd or 3rd base, proper footwork for turning double plays, proper footwork for relaying throws from outfielders

    Hands: Proper hand placement for fielding ground balls, line drives or pop-flys, Proper hand placement for receiving throws, Proper hand technique for relaying throws from outfielders, Proper transfer of the ball for throws

    Throwing: Throwing drills for fielding ground balls (at them, towards the bag, away from the bag, charging the baseball, Throwing drills for relaying throws from outfielders, Throwing drills for turning double plays

Outfield:

    Catching: Proper technique for catching fly balls (how to approach a fly ball or line drive, reading the flight of the fly ball), proper technique for fielding ground balls in the outfield

    Throwing: Proper technique for throwing of a fly ball to relay men, bases or do-or-die plays, as well as, the same throws of a ground ball

We will use several drills to cover all these skills, building the basic foundation early in the lesson plans and progressing to advanced skills as the player progresses. Our goal is to build the players full skill set as infielders or outfielders and to make them better prepared to continue their baseball playing careers.

Christmas is already here and the New Year is right around the corner. That means that baseball season is only two months away, in fact, it starts for our Ventura College players on January 11, 2010!

Our Fall Hitting Program went well and now it's time for the Spring Hitting Program to begin. We will be advertising our program in the media within the next week and with baseball season approaching we expect a large turnout. However, we want the players that have been part of our program in the past to have the first opportunity at securing a hitting spot.

This program will be slightly different in the spring. We will not have four-man hitting groups, but rather we will have two-man lessons or individual hitting lessons.

The two-man groups will be the same price, but the individual lesson will be priced slightly higher. The two-man group will be $110.00 per month and the individual lessons will be $120.00 per month. There is a sibling discount as well.

The lessons will run from January to May, which should get our hitters through their youth league schedule. The lessons will be held on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sundays from January 4 to April 4.

The information for the hitting lessons is below:

Location: Ventura College (until the indoor facility is up and running. We are working diligently on the facility. When it opens the lessons will move indoors.)

Cost: Two-Man Lesson Package -- $110.00 per month; Sibling discount -- $100 per player per month. Save $20.00
